Boomers and Beyond Travel Club

Due to high demand for the Senior Centers monthly trips and a desire to be fair for all and allow more participants to enjoy these opportunities, we are piloting having registrants entered into a free staff supervised raffle. If you are part of a pair, this does not guarantee both registrants’ attendance. For those who need caregiver assistance, please call Jamie at 617‐730‐2753. This is a pilot and we welcome your feedback.

HISTORIC NEWTON SITES
On Tuesday, March 25 from 10am-12:30 pm, we will visit two of the Historic Newton sites that are 5 minutes from each other: the Jackson Homestead and Museum and the Durant-Kenrick House. The Jackson Homestead and Museum displays rotating and permanent participatory exhibits about the history of Newton, Massachusetts, and the Underground Railroad. The Homestead is also home to the Archives of Historic Newton. Here you’ll find a federal-style house built in 1809 for Timothy Jackson and his family, a stop on the Underground Railroad, and exhibitions about the history of food, farming, and family life; slavery and anti-slavery; and notable people and events in Newton. The Durant-Kenrick House is a 1734 farmhouse with period rooms. Please note that the Jackson Homestead is not fully accessible – there is a set of stairs leading up to an exhibit on the second floor, but there is a printed version of that exhibit for people who cannot easily navigate the stairs. Durant-Kenrick is mostly accessible – there is an elevator to use between floors but three steps between two areas of the second floor. Raffle winners will be drawn on Tuesday, March 18 and attendees will be notified then.

Please register for the raffle at 617-730-2770.
